 1. What makes Orveda’s approach to skincare different from traditional luxury beauty brands?

Orveda is a high-performance biotech skincare brand that uses biotechnology as its foundation for creation. Our founders, Nicolas Vu and Sue Nabi, pioneered the science of skincare biocompatibility. They discovered that when an active ingredient is processed by a living organism, it becomes easily recognized and accepted by the skin as one of its own. This innovative approach allows us to create formulas with active concentrations that are 15 times higher than those in conventional skincare, while still being gentle on the skin.

Additionally, Orveda products are enhanced with professional-grade tools to maximize the benefits of our active ingredients. We utilize Kabuki brushes with our cleansers, performing deep pore cleansing and accelerating microcirculation. We also employ Zamak tools to stimulate the lymphatic system, helping to decongest, depuff, lift, and firm the skin.

2. If someone is new to Orveda, which product is the best starting point and why?

The best starting point is The Vital Sap—it is our essence concentrated with 15% active ingredients. This essential first-step treatment can be applied shortly after cleansing. It is a hybrid product that combines the power of a serum with the intense hydration of a toner. Known as our "Glow Shot," it serves as a microbiome fertilizer, providing all the necessary nutrients for your skin, such as prebiotics, kombucha black tea, papaya enzymes and two types of hyaluronic acid (HA), keeping the skin radiant and hydrated for up to 8 hours. 

3. What role does the skin’s microbiome play in Orveda’s skincare philosophy?

Founded in 2017, Orveda is one of the first brands to pioneer skincare that respects the skin's microbiome. Our bodies are home to billions of bacteria that are crucial for skin health, serving as our first immune barrier. Our founders, Sue and Nicolas, aimed to create highly concentrated skincare formulations that are 100% compatible with the skin microbiome—skincare that “works with the skin and not against it.” We prioritize a prebiotic-ceramide formulation, providing barrier support that helps rebalance the skin ecosystem and combat aging and inflammation.

 4. Many Orveda products focus on skin glow. What’s the secret to that signature ‘Orveda radiance’?

 The secret lies in our star ingredient: The biofermented kombucha black tea, rich in B vitamins and peptides. Known for its remarkable ability to enhance skin glow, kombucha tea acts as “makeup from within,” helping to increase rosy tones while reducing pale or dull complexions. It also offers a strong smoothing and lipofilling effect, enhancing the skin's plumpness. Additionally, our unique signature complex combines biofermented marine enzymes and biofermented prebiotics to restore the moisture barrier and activate the skin's natural glow. These three ingredients work across all layers of the skin ecosystem. 

5. Can you walk us through an Orveda ritual for morning or evening?

I have a comprehensive routine, but there are three Orveda products I use regularly. First is our iconic toner-serum hybrid, The Vital Sap, a daily essential. This product combines the potency of a serum with the hydration of a toner. Known as the "Glow Shot" for your skin, The Vital Sap contains 15% active ingredients and functions as a microbiome fertilizer, supplying all the necessary nutrients to keep the skin hydrated for up to 8 hours. I apply it right after cleansing and before any moisturizer or masks to enhance the benefits of the next steps.

As a moisturizer, I use The Bio-Tech Emulsion, a powerhouse product featuring Hyaluronic Acid, meadowfoam seed oil, and adenosine that locks in moisture, offering the best protection and hydration throughout the day. It is suitable for all skin types, including the most sensitive. It can be used daily, but I also recommend using it as a mask with our professional silicone mask for 10 minutes once a week, or whenever the skin needs regeneration or extra hydration

 Finally, for a night treatment, I use the Overnight Reviving Mask, known as our "sleep in a bottle." It provides optimal hydration for extremely dehydrated or sensitized skin due to factors like post-procedure recovery, jet lag, or just general skin fatigue.

7. SENO-THERAPY / SENESCENCE - How do Orveda formulas help improve skin health and appearance?  

Orveda scientists have studied the effects of aging on the accumulation of senescent ("zombie") cells in our skin. While senescence is a natural part of aging, it has been found that these senescent cells can contaminate healthy cells, triggering inflammation and accelerating premature aging in the skin. If left unchecked, the number of senescent cells can increase by up to three times by the time we reach the age of 60. Orveda has developed formulations designed not only to prevent the spread of cellular senescence but also to delay its formation.
