The Ultimate Augustinus Bader Skincare Routine
Thinking about ways to upgrade your skincare routine? Our CEO, Oliver Garfield, is on the same page. He had a productive conversation about skincare with celebrity aesthetician, Gavin McLeod. Gavin gave him expert advice on how to expand his regimen to target specific concerns and maximize results using the iconic skincare brand to the stars, Augustinus Bader. Read on to discover all the tips and tricks for yourself!
To start his expert advice, Gavin asked Oliver a few questions below to gain a better understanding of his wants and needs regarding his ideal skincare routine.
Gavin: How would you describe your skin type?
Oliver: Combination, though I’m noticing as I’m getting older my skin is getting increasingly dryer, or perhaps now called normal. When I go home to visit Aspen my skin definitely gets super dry.
Gavin: What finish/texture do you prefer?
Oliver: Maintaining good skin fitness with proper cleansing and moisturizing morning and night. Funny, I can’t go to sleep without washing my face, and it shares that same feeling as teeth brushing. Occasionally I’ll get minor breakouts along my hairline from products or wearing hats.
Gavin: Do you like to keep your routine simple and concise or are you open to adding more targeted products in your regime?
Oliver: Negative as I’m a creature of habit, and I’m keen on keeping a daily rhythm.
Gavin: Has there been any reason in the past for you to change your routine, either a protocol or a product line?
Oliver: I do change by season and climate. Typically, colder seasons and dryer climates require more exfoliation and moisturization. Another route I sometimes take is to leave the basic routine and then insert a serum depending on the need.
After reviewing Oliver’s answers, Gavin gave these recommendations below:
Gavin: Oliver is a man who understands his skin concerns and knows that he prefers an edited approach to skincare. Keeping a regime concise is essential for him to stick to the routine.
In the morning I recommend either The Cleansing Balm or The Cream Cleansing Gel. Massage this into the skin to increase blood flow and micro-circulation, energizing the complexion and helping to massage out congested toxins and overnight expulsion.
Both cleansers serve as excellent alternatives to traditional shaving formulas, so either of these cleansers can double up duties. The Cleansing Balm in particular is excellent for shaving needs, and highly effective at removing spf and the remains of the day as part of a double cleansing nightly regime (a non-negotiable in my book)
After the cleansing step, I would suggest The Rich Cream. Given that dryness and dehydration is a primary concern, I want to make sure the moisturizer is really working towards deep dehydration. The Rich Cream with its rich formula of essential fatty acids, hydrators and TFC8 works magically to condition, hydrate and protect.
Alternatively during the summer months or when in a humid environment, this could be switched out to The Light Cream, which is mattifying while still improving skin resilience. After this step, applying SPF is a daily step no one can miss.
For evening, I would layer in some strategic products to do some of the heavier repair work - which is most effective during our night's sleep. I am a stickler for a double cleanse before bed. This is essential to really clean off the face from the day and then to purify the pores. There are two options here. Either start with The Cleansing Balm and then follow with The Cream Cleansing Gel or stick to The Cream Cleansing Gel but use it twice. Simply wash the face, rinse off, and wash again with the same product.
After double cleansing, I always recommend the use of The Essence - a three-in-one-multitasker that hydrates, nourishes and exfoliates with a sophisticated blend of AHA's, BHA's and PHA's (acids). This exfoliating tonic powerfully but gently targets surface pigmentation; both sun-associated damage and post-inflammatory markings while also blurring the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Texture is refined and skin appears noticeably refreshed and smoother.
After this point there are two options, he can simply apply The Rich Cream and call it a night, or he can include post-Essence but pre-Rich Cream, The Serum. The Serum from Augustinus Bader is a total complexion correction concentrate designed to rapidly expedite results. For me this is the perfect product to include within a nighttime regime, as it was formulated to deeply hydrate the skin, while also dramatically improving skin pigmentation. The Serum in combination with The Essence will literally remove last week's bad behavior from our face and Ibiza from ten years ago.
Thank you Gavin, for your knowledgeable recommendations and step by step instructions for both morning and evening routines. We’re ready to glow!
